Muka

MUKA is a boomer shooter from an alternate 90s, built on muka, our own engine written from scratch in C and OpenGL. 

It looks like a Czech shooter of that era: crisp unfiltered pixels, wobbly affine floors, grey concrete housing blocks and a sky that's always raining. 

Underneath it has modern parts: real-time ray-traced lighting where darkness is part of the gameplay, enemies you can tear apart limb by limb, and a lot of blood. 

April 1986. A technician from Plzeň (Pilsen) drives to Chernobyl for a routine test and brings a crate of Plzeň beer as a gift. The test gets pushed back ten hours, the shift has nothing to do, the crate gets opened and the Russians add the vodka. At 1:23 reactor number four blows up. 

Moscow says nothing happened and quietly starts looking for a saboteur. 

A foreigner who got the plant crew drunk is the perfect suspect. Hangover, radiation and a guilt nobody will admit exists. 

That's the muka (Czech for "torment").
